L'annonce de l'arrestation il y a quatre jours d'un deuxième employé d'alfa, Tarek Raed Rabaa, soupçonné d'espionnage au profit d'Israël, s'est accompagnée hier d'une double attaque contre le TSL via la piste des communications de la part du quotidien syrien officiel Techrine et du Hezbollah.
Commentant les informations parues dans les médias au sujet des confessions du premier employé d'alfa arrêté, Charbel Azzi, selon lesquelles il aurait manipulé les banques de données au niveau des communications au sein de la société, Techrine a estimé que « cela repose la question de la crédibilité de toutes les informations tronquées et de tous les mensonges contenus dans le rapport de l'ex-enquêteur international Detlev Mehlis ». « Il s'agissait du premier rapport, du plus mensonger et du plus célèbre concernant l'assassinat du Premier ministre Rafic Hariri, dans la mesure où Mehlis avait fondé toutes ses accusations sur le contenu de prétendus appels, assurant que ces derniers avaient eu lieu entre des personnalités et des officiers qui ont par la suite été la cible d'accusations. Sa seule preuve était ces contacts présumés qu'il évoque en détail dans son premier rapport, lequel comportait beaucoup d'informations techniques liées au réseau de communications et aux techniques de la téléphonie mobile », poursuit Techrine, avant de faire le lien entre les accusations de Mehlis et l'arrestation « de l'agent d'Israël au sein d'alfa », et de conclure que « des preuves ont été créées de toutes pièces ». Selon Techrine, « Israël était donc capable, à travers son agent, d'enregistrer et d'attribuer des appels qui en fait n'ont pas eu lieu à des personnes déterminées ».
Techrine souligne ensuite que cet employé d'alfa a joué un rôle dans l'assassinat de Rafic Hariri et dans les assassinats qui ont suivi, puisqu'il pouvait repérer géographiquement les cibles à l'aide des signaux des téléphones mobiles. Une manière d'accuser Israël de tous les assassinats commis au Liban depuis 2004, thèse que le quotidien syrien s'emploie à développer ensuite longuement dans le même article.
De son côté, le responsable des relations internationales au sein du Hezbollah, Ammar Moussawi, a affirmé hier : « Jusqu'à présent, nous sentons que le TSL est politisé depuis ses débuts. Même ceux qui ont discuté avec nous de cette affaire nous ont demandé d'accepter de porter le chapeau, quitte à ce que la responsabilité soit rejetée sur quelques éléments indisciplinés, ce qui serait alors sans danger, nous a-t-on dit. (...) Malgré nos doutes, nous n'avons pas de problèmes à coopérer, mais le processus du TSL n'a pas été particulièrement encourageant jusqu'à présent. Nous attendrons quand même sa décision, et aviserons après. »

On 13 December 2005 the Government of the Lebanese Republic requested the UN to establish a tribunal of an international character to try all those who are alleged responsible for the attack of 14 february 2005 that killed the former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri and 22 others. The United Nations and the Lebanese Republic consequently negotiated an agreement on the establishment of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon.
