June 27, 2009 - Daily Star - Judge Riachy elected deputy president for Special Tribunal

BEIRUT: The Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) announced on Friday that Lebanese Judge Ralph Riachy was unanimously elected to be the tribunal's deputy president. STL president Judge Antonio Cassese said he was glad to work with Riachy, who has experience in the field of Lebanese law, which the court implements.
"Riachy's position as deputy president will enhance the STL's work," he said.
On Thursday, the UN-backed tribunal probing the 2005 assassination of former Lebanese Premier Rafik Hariri activated a secure website enabling people to send in information they might have about the case.
The website, available in the court's three official languages - French, English and Arabic - was "designed specifically for individuals who have valuable information for the investigation but have no secure and confidential means to contact the Investigation Division of the Office of the Prosecutor," said a statement from the STL prosecutors' office.
Such websites are not uncommon for criminal investigations, senior spokesperson for the office of Prosecutor Daniel Bellemare, Radhia Achouri, told The Daily Star. The website was partially launched in response to complaints that the court was not accessible enough after its establishment in The Netherlands, she added.
