NOW Lebanon’s correspondent reported on Saturday that Lebanon First bloc MP Ahmad Fatfat said that doubting the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) before it issues its indictment leads to tension and affects national unity, referring to Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah’s Friday speech.
Fatfat added that Nasrallah’s speech surprised him, calling it treasonous. He also said that he does not understand how someone can doubt the STL’s indictment when it has not even been issued yet.
Nasrallah said that an indictment by the tribunal is an Israeli project designed to target Hezbollah by stirring up sectarian strife in Lebanon.
The MP also said that accusations should be made on legal basis, adding that the STL has proven its credibility when it held a public hearing earlier in the week on former General Security head Brigadier General Jamil as-Sayyed’s request for files related to his detention in Lebanon from 2005 to 2009.
