December 12, 2009 - Naharnet - Justice Ministry to Deal with Syrian Warrants 'Legally'

A judicial source said Syrian warrants demanding that a number of Lebanese officials as well as journalists appear in a Damascus court to be questioned over a lawsuit filed by Maj. Gen. Jamil Sayyed were carried out in "clear violation" of the law and norms. "In this case, the warrants should be returned," the source told al-Mustaqbal daily in remarks published Thursday. The Justice Ministry, meanwhile, issued a statement announcing that it will deal with the warrants "legally."
The ministry "will consider this judicial issue and deal with it legally," said the statement, released Thursday. It said the justice ministry will take an "appropriate, legal stance on the matter." An-Nahar daily said the Justice Ministry's Legislation and Consultation Committee also was examining the warrants and was likely to give an opinion later Thursday
