March 11, 2009 - Middle East Times - Suleiman upbeat on Lebanese elections

BEIRUT, Lebanon, March 11 (UPI) -- Lebanese citizens will head to the polls in June with a sense of passion despite political skirmishes, Lebanese President Michel Suleiman said.Suleiman offered a positive stance on the upcoming June 7 general elections, saying they would proceed despite a spate of skirmishes in the country, Lebanon's The Daily Star reports."We go to the elections willingly and filled with enthusiasm and joy," the president said.Jeffrey Feltman, the United States' acting assistant secretary of state for the region, met with Lebanese officials during the weekend and said U.S. and European officials would monitor the elections if requested to do so by Beirut.Meanwhile, officials with the political wing of Hezbollah predicted they, along with the Christian Free Patriotic Movement of former Lebanese commander Michel Aoun, would win a narrow victory in the June elections.
