Daily Star - Sayyed says his detainment 'will not last', July 10, 2007.
BEIRUT: The detained former head of General Security, Jamil Sayyed, renewed appeals for release on Monday, saying his detainment "will not last any longer" since the chief of the international team probing the killing of former Premier Rafik Hariri, Serge Brammertz was "five times categorical about dismissing any involvement of the four former security chiefs in the assassination."
Four officers - Raymond Azar of Army Intelligence, Ali Hajj of the Internal Security Forces, Mustafa Hamdan of the Presidential Guard and Sayyed - have been detained since August 2005 for alleged involvement in Hariri's assassination.
Sayyed, in a statement issued through the office of his attorney Akram Azoury, accused State Prosecutor Saeed Mirza and Investigative Magistrate Elias Eid of abusing the powers of the judiciary and acting upon political orders.
