International tribunal to top Cabinet discussion

Daily Star - International tribunal to top Cabinet discussion, November 10, 2007.

The Cabinet is expected to discuss 96 items on its agenda during a session to be held at the temporary headquarters in downtown Beirut on Saturday. The international court to try suspects into the February 2005 assassination of former Premier Rafik Hariri, in addition to the conditions of Lebanese prisons will be among the most prominent issues discussed during the session headed by Premier Fouad Siniora.

Background - خلفية

On 13 December 2005 the Government of the Lebanese Republic requested the UN to establish a tribunal of an international character to try all those who are alleged responsible for the attack of 14 february 2005 that killed the former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri and 22 others. The United Nations and the Lebanese Republic consequently negotiated an agreement on the establishment of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon.
